BT Sport 1 is part of a group of sports channels airing content in the UK and Ireland. It is owned by BT Group and it was launched on August 1, 2013.
BT Sport caught the attention of the industry when BT Group announced they had won broadcasting rights to 38 Premier League games from the 2013-14 season, which was followed by the group’s announcement of their own sports network. The channel was launched on August 1, 2013 along with its sister channel, BT Sport 2.
BT Sport 1 has become one of the top sports channels in the world since its creation. Throughout its history, the channel has aired football games, rugby matches, hockey games, cricket clashes, motor sport events and UFC fights.
Speaking about football, the channel has aired games for some top-caliber moments from international competitions such as the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League. The channel’s partnership with ESPN allows it to air some American sports, such as Major League Baseball games, college sports, and X-Games. ESPN’s documentaries are also available on BT Sport thanks to this agreement.

UEFA Champions League (2018-2021)BT Sport has acquired exclusive UEFA Champions League rights in the UK, starting from the 2018-19 season. The three-year, multi-platform deal will bring all Champions League matches live to the ' subscribers on TV, online, mobile devices and via the BT Sport app. Coverage of the competition will be available every season through the BT Sport Pack and is expected to be spread across the network's family of channels.
UEFA Europa League (2018-2021)BT Sport has retained exclusive multi-platform for the UEFA Europa League in the UK. For the 2020/21 season, BT Sport’s package of EPL matches was expanded to 58 games, up from 52 games in the previous season.
Germany - Bundesliga (2018-2021)BT Sport secured a 5-year deal with the German Bundesliga back in 2016, which enables it to matches from Germany's top tier division in UK and Ireland on its various platforms until 2021. The deal, which also gives BT Sport access to the DFL Supercup and German Bundesliga 2, means that the UK will air games every week on its TV channels, including BT Sport 1, BT Sport ESPN and Ultra HD network BT Sport Ultimate.
